Did you know that cocktail culture has thrived around the world in the last century, unlike in America? Japan has revered bartenders, who have evolved their bartools over the decades since Prohibition killed cocktail culture here. I’m celebrating with a Japanese take on an old fashioned. Happy Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month!
Chill a coupe glass with ice and water.
In a glass Yarai mixing vessel, add:
¼ oz simple syrup
2 dashes angostura bitters
2 dashes orange bitters
2 oz Kikori rice whisky
Stir well with ice. Strain through raw brown rice in a fine mesh strainer. Ad a drop or two of toasted
sesame oil for garnish. Kanpai!
