Strongest Alcohol: Try Bhutanese Ara and Bangchang

Ara is Bhutan’s local liquor made of fermented rice.

Many visitors tasted ara and bangchang at Gandhi National Center for the Arts from 23rd till the 30th Sept 2018. one of the guys shook his head and said- it’s nice and you can see the bitter expression.

Ara is one of the strongest alcohol in Bhutan and it can be made from rice, barley, millet, maize etc.. Bhutanese people prefer drinking ara made with butter and eggs and it is consumed this way in most places in the country. The price of ara varies from districts to Districts. Alcohol is cheap in Bhutan and is a bit different in terms of taste, brands and the pricing.

Local Ara: 40 to 70 Ngultrum( Bhutanese currency- equal ratio to the Indian currency) that will be 40 to70 Rupees.
